Representatives from 25 local employers will be available to take applications and resumes and provide information on available positions. A variety of free health screening also will be available. Volunteers needed for beach symphony concertTREASURE ISLAND -- The city needs volunteers to assist the neighborhood civic associations with food and beverage concessions at the Sun, Sand and Symphony concert on May 26. The concert by the Tampa Bay Symphony will take place on the beach. In addition to concessions, the city needs volunteers to help with T-shirt sales, parking, the volunteer tent and reserved table sales. Proceeds will benefit the civic associations, including Sunset Beach, Sunshine Beach, Paradise Island, Isle of Capri and Isle of Palms. Treasure Island to offer beginner tennis lessonsTREASURE ISLAND -- Treasure Island Tennis will offer a USA123 Tennis Program for beginners at the Treasure Island Golf, Tennis and Recreation Center, 10315 Paradise Blvd. The program will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturdays, beginning May 5, and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, beginning May 10. Classes will cost $60 for six weeks. No experience or racquets are necessary, and all ages are welcome. For more information, call the center at 360-6062. Also, Treasure Island Tennis will offer a Juniors Tennis Camp for children 7 and older from June 11 through Aug. 17. The day session will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. The fee will be $15 per child per day or $65 per child per week. The evening session will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The fee for the evening session will be $12 per child per day. Kids can attend summer camp in Treasure IslandTREASURE ISLAND -- The Recreation Department is offering a summer program for children 4-12 years old. The program will run from June 11 through Aug. 17. Program hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with no camp July 4. Upon request, extended care will be provided until 5:30 p.m. for an additional fee. The cost for the 10-week program is $250 per child for residents and $500 per child for non-residents. Two proofs of residency, as well as program fees, are required at registration. Registration will begin May 7 at the recreation office, inside City Hall at 120 108th Ave. Registration will continue until the maximum enrollment of 200 children has been reached. Free T-shirts will be distributed to each registered participant while supplies last. Activities will include theme parties, arts and crafts, movies, competitive and non-competitive games and sports, special guest speakers and entertainment, field trips and other activities. Relay for Life events to be held in April and MayRelay for Life 2001, an overnight, community-based, fundraising event for the American Cancer Society is designed to celebrate cancer survivorship as well as to raise money. Relay for Life will be held on a number of different dates and in various Pinellas and Hillsborough county sites. The fundraiser involves teams of people going to the site of their choice, taking with them camping equipment, chairs, radios, etc. Teams of ten or more will "relay-walk" around the track from 6 p.m. until noon at each of the following sites: April 27-28: Dunedin High School Stadium, 1651 Pinehurst Road, Dunedin. Humane Society offers foster parents class The Humane Society of North Pinellas is offering a class for all prospective animal foster parents at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Clearwater Countryside Library, 2741 SR 580, Clearwater. Foster parents work with an all volunteer team of employees and veterinarians to care for dogs, cats, puppies, kittens and other animals. Many foster care options are available for healthy, ill or injured animals, and the Humane Society provides all medicines, food, crates and more. Call 797-7722. Save Our Families Summit to be held in May The "Save Our Families Summit" will be held May 11-13 at the Safety Harbor Spa and Resort, 105 N Bayshore Drive, Safety Harbor. The three-day summit is intended to assist families by supporting strong, healthy family environments, and to help protect families from outside agencies through education of family law and community awareness. The event is designed, in part, to bridge the gap between protecting children from abuse and protecting families from unwarranted claims of abuse. The cost is $100 for all three days, or $25 for the May 11 welcoming reception from 7:30-9:30 p.m., $80 for the May 12 conference from 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., or $25 for the May 13 Florida Freedom Review meeting, which begins at 1:30 p.m. Hotel space is limited, so interested parties are asked to reserve their room through the hotel -- mentioning they are with the Save Our Families Summit block -- at (727) 726-1161. Good riddance to rubbish in Lealman on SaturdayLEALMAN -- Saturday's Extreme Clean-Up is your chance to get rid of that old washing machine. The Lealman Community Association, Lealman Family Center, Pinellas County Department of Community Development, Waste Management Inc., and Keep Pinellas Cities Beautiful, the local arm of Keep America Beautiful, are sponsoring the event to give residents a place to dump all their non-hazardous trash. There will be two drop-off points: 46th Avenue N just east of 37th Street, and at Lealman Park, 54th Avenue N at 40th Street. "This is for everything else, including old appliances, furniture, yard waste (and) building materials," said Frank Bowman, a senior development specialist with the county. Residents who bring in their trash will have a chance for coupon books from Publix and other prizes. Water quality at beaches is topic of talk SundayThe American Oceans Campaign is sponsoring a Healthy Beaches workshop from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the main branch of the St. Petersburg Public Library, 3745 Ninth Ave. N. The workshops will discuss the monitoring of water quality at beaches. The American Oceans Campaign is a national, non-profit organization focused on safeguarding the nation's oceans and coastal waters. The workshops are supported in part by the Turner Foundation and Project AWARE.
