Youth roundupBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published April 26, 2001 COUNCIL ON INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION EXCHANGE SEEKS HOST FAMILIES: The Council on International Education Exchange, endorsed by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, is seeking families in Citrus County to host high school students from around the world for the upcoming school year. The students will arrive in early or mid-August, attend high school, and return to their homes in early June 2002. They have medical and accident insurance and spending money. They have studied English for at least three years, and most have studied for more than five years. Host families may be couples with or without children, or single parents with children at home. They provide a bed, breakfast, dinner and a loving atmosphere for the student. If you wish to open your home and your heart to an international student or learn more about being a host family, please call Rich McConnell (341-5905) or Alicia Varoas (344-5670), Local Coordinators for Citrus County. TAE KWON DO: Citrus County Parks and Recreation is offering tae kwon do classes to children 6 and older. The first class is free. Cost is $10 for the first month, $20 for each additional month. Students learn self-control, confidence, self-defense, discipline and respect. Classes meet once a week: Citrus County Auditorium from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays; Lecanto Primary School from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays; Crystal River Middle School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays; Citrus Springs Middle School from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday; Beverly Hills Community Building from 6 to 9 p.m. Fridays; and Homosassa Riverside Resort from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. STORY TIME: The Citrus County Library System is offering free story time programs for 3- to 6-year-olds, which may include finger plays, flannel board stories, book sharing, games, songs, dance or crafts. The programs are at 11 a.m. Tuesdays at Central Ridge Library, 9:30 a.m. Thursdays at Lakes Region Library; 10 a.m. Tuesdays at Homosassa Public Library; and 2 p.m. Saturdays at Floral City Public Library. No registration required. Bedtime stories are at 7 p.m. every Tuesday at Central Ridge Library, and 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday at Lakes Region Library.
