Police seek help in locating missing boy

Police are asking for the public's help in locating a child they say was abducted by his grandfather Tuesday and might be in danger.

The grandfather took the the boy, 6-year-old Nicolas Gonzales, from the yard of the father's Hernando County home after a judge recently awarded custody to the father, Johnny Gonzales.

The boy was raised by his grandfather, Miguel Ortiz, 58 of 265 Broad St., in Masaryktown. But sheriff's authorities and officials with the Department of Children and Families have since started investigating allegations that Ortiz neglected and abused the boy.

No abuse charges have been filed, although Ortiz and his live-in girlfriend, Iris Maria Santiago, 48, now face charges of interferring with the custody of a child.

The couple was last seen driving a brown 1982 Ford F-250 Super Cab pickup with Florida tag HM271U.

The boy has black hair, brown eyes and a scar on his forehead. Ortiz is a 5-foot-5 Hispanic male with graying black hair, brown eyes, and wears glasses and has a mustache.

Santiago is a 5-foot-1 Hispanic female with long brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 754-6830 or the anonymous tips line at 797-8477.

Man accused of raping female friend

A man is accused of dragging a woman out of her truck, forcing her into a home and raping her.

Investigators say Timothy Tee Johnson, 20, of 15262 Highfield Road west of Brooksville was friends with his victim.

According to reports, he attacked her Monday, and after getting her into the home, threatened her with a machete and raped her. Afterward, he told her he would kill her if she told police, officials said.

Johnson was arrested Tuesday on charges of sexual battery, false imprisonment, burglary of a structure and violation of probation.

He remained in the Hernando County jail without bail.
