Bluegrass Festival set for this weekend

The Annual Spring Bluegrass Festival will be held Friday through Sunday at the Sertoma Youth Ranch, 85 Myers Road, Brooksville. Show times are from 4 to 11 p.m. Friday, from noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets for the weekend are $30, or $13 for Friday and Saturday and $8 for Sunday. Tickets for children ages 12-16 are $2. Children under 12 get in free. For information call, (352)754-3082 or (813) 985-2780.

YMCA holding bench press contest

The East Pasco Family YMCA, 37301 Chapel Hill Loop, is holding its third annual bench press contest May 19. Weigh-in will begin at 10:30 a.m. There will be men's and women's weight classes, and trophies will be awarded to first-place winners. Deadline for signup is May 18. Entry fee is $10. School holding May Day celebration

Cox Elementary School, 37614 Martin Luther King Blvd., Dade City, will hold a May Day celebration from 1:30 to 3 p.m. May 4. Students will design hats during art class to wear in the parade. The school is accepting donations of materials such as ribbons, netting, silk flowers, glue and colored paper. Parents are invited to attend the parade. For information, call (352) 524-5100.

Garden show will 'honor the ladybug'

The Magnolia Festival and Garden Show will "honor the ladybug" May 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and May 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pioneer Florida Museum, 15602 Pioneer Museum Road, (off U.S. 301) Dade City. The garden show will feature flowers, plants, garden equipment, and yard and garden decorations. There will be demonstrations on gardening and pest control for yards. The Pasco County Master Gardeners and Florida Yards and Neighborhoods Program Assistant Jeannie Hayes will hold a rain barrel workshop. Purple Heart group to install officers

The Military Order of the Purple Heart East Pasco Chapter 705 has elected new officers and appointees who will be installed at the meeting May 3 at 7 p.m. in the JROTC room of the Zephyrhills High School, 6335 12th St. The installing officer will be John Henry Douglas Jr. Vice Commander of the State of Florida MOPH from Lake City.
