PETERSBURG -- Michael Freeman, a retired advertising executive and management consultant and husband of Corinne Freeman, a former St. Petersburg mayor who served on the Pinellas County School Board, has died at 81. Mr. Freeman, who worked in Boston as well as Florida in a career of more than 40 years, died Tuesday (April 24, 2001) at St. Anthony's Hospital. In retirement, Mr. Freeman was a volunteer with the Senior Corps of Retired Executives. The author of a children's book, he read to students in local public schools. He was a former member of the Civitan Club and a member of the Kiwanis and Lions clubs, all in St. Petersburg. Born in New York City, he came here in 1968 from Marblehead, Mass. Survivors in addition to his wife of 53 years include two sons, Dr. Michael, Nashville, Tenn., and Stephan, St. Petersburg; and five grandchildren, Carl Freeman, Scott Freeman and Mark Freeman, all of Nashville, and Kyle Freeman and Rachel Freeman, both of St. Petersburg.
