Classic race anchors inaugural festival
The 33rd annual Regatta del Sol al Sol is the centerpiece of the inaugural Fiesta del Sol al Sol, a multicultural festival that continues through May 6 at locations around Pinellas County. The regatta, a 456-mile yacht race from St. Petersburg to Isla Mujeres, off Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, departs at 10 a.m. Friday from the St. Petersburg Yacht Club. The best place to view the start of the race is from The Pier, 800 Second Ave. NE.
Other highlights:
A display of regatta memorabilia at The Pier, through Sunday.
A display of Mexican and Pre-Columbian art at the Museum of Fine Arts, 255 Beach Drive NE, through May 6.
Get Downtown Fiesta, 5:30-10 p.m. Friday, Central Avenue, downtown.
The Great Tampa Bay Recycle Regatta, with handmade watercrafts built from at least 70 percent recycled material. 2 p.m. Saturday, north end of North Shore Park, downtown St. Petersburg.
Uno Latin Film Festival, May 4 to 6, Main Street Cinema, 27928 U.S. 19, Clearwater. $10 opening night film and reception; $6 per film May 5 and 6.
Fun 'n Sun Cinco de Mayo Celebration and Parade, 7:30 p.m. May 5, downtown Clearwater.
