INVERNESS -- A judge on Thursday gave Clifford Micklos permission to travel with his grown daughter to her home in Waco, Texas, a prosecutor said.
Micklos will live there and return to Citrus County once his criminal case is ready for resolution. Authorities say Micklos, 86, fatally shot his ailing wife last month in what he described as a mercy killing. He is charged with manslaughter.
Earlier this month, after a grand jury reviewed the case and decided Micklos would not face a murder charge, Circuit Judge Patricia Thomas set bail at $15,000. Micklos posted bail and left the Citrus County jail. He has been living at his Beverly Hills home with his daughter, Patricia, ever since. Circuit Judge Barbara Gurrola gave Micklos permission to stay in Texas, where his daughter maintains a medical practice, Assistant State Attorney Don Scaglione said. Prosecutors did not object. Plea negotiations are under way.
