SEMINOLE -- Traffic in Seminole and Largo will take a few detours Saturday to avoid the Seminole Stampede races.

Because the Seminole Stampede has added a 10K event this year, Walsingham Road from 119th to 125th Street N will be closed from 7 to 10 a.m. Also, 125th Street will be closed from Walsingham Road north to the entrance to the Pinellas County Cooperative Extension Center.

That's because the 10K event actually will go through parts of Pinewood Cultural Park, which includes the Gulf Coast Museum of Art, the Florida Botanical Gardens, the Co-Op Extension and Heritage Village.

Stampede co-chairman Tim Schuler said there should be enough parking at Walsingham Park for volunteers and participants.

"All participants, especially, are to enter the park on 102nd Avenue N and they will be directed where to park," he said.

The Stampede, the eighth annual event staged by the Greater Seminole Area Chamber of Commerce, is the organization's major fundraiser. About 150 people have registered for the race, and late registration will be offered at Walsingham Park on Saturday.

The 10K, 5K and 1-mile fun run will all begin at the boat ramp on the north end of Walsingham Park. The fun run will start at 8 a.m.; both the 10K and 5K will begin at 8:15 a.m.

The 10K race course, which will be marked by red signs and red arrows, will spill out unto Walsingham Road, go east to 119th Street, then head back west to the art museum and the botanical gardens; continue west out the museum parking lot, then right onto 125th Street past Heritage Village and north to the Co-Op Extension before turning south again and connecting with the 5K route in Walsingham Park.

For the 5K event, blue arrows and signs will mark the way in Walsingham Park. The 1-mile fun run will be marked by green arrows and green signs.

Late registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. near the boat ramp, which is the start/finish line of the Stampede. Fees are $15 for the 10K or 5K events and $10 for the fun run.

For information, parking instructions and maps, participants can consult the chamber's Web site: www.seminole-chamber.org or stop by the chamber office, 8400 113th St. N through Friday (392-3245).
