TAMPA -- With the Class A girls team title clinched, two Saddlebrook Prep players returned to Hillsborough Community College on Thursday to vie for overall crowns.

The Spartans claimed one of the two girls titles with Kelly McCain and Emily Sechaud defeating Boca Raton Prep's Meredith Fish and Susie Abroneit 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 in No. 1 doubles.

Their match lasted 3 hours, 15 minutes and was the second of two grueling matches for McCain on the final day of the state tournament.

McCain and Boca Raton St. Andrew's Courtney Bergman, foes as 8-year-olds when their families lived in Danville, Ill., volleyed and served for nearly 4 hours for the No. 1 singles overall title before Bergman won 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5).

"Kelly's going to sleep well tonight," said Saddlebrook coach Dave McCain, Kelly's father.

McCain and Sechaud won the No. 1 doubles team title while Fish and Abroneit emerged from the individual No. 1 doubles bracket.

McCain, the nation's No. 1-ranked player in girls 18s, also won the No. 1 singles title in the team category while Bergman was the No. 1 singles individual champion.
