Women to hold prayer breakfast Thursday

Deborah H. Powe of Revealing Truth Ministries Christian Center will be the guest speaker at the Pinellas Ladies Prayer Breakfast, from 7 to 9 a.m. Thursday at the Harborview Center, 300 Cleveland St., Clearwater. The event coincides with National Day of Prayer. The cost is $18. Call (727) 443-3392 for reservations.

Church to celebrate mortgage-free status

Allendale United Methodist Church will celebrate its paid-in-full mortgage with a mortgage-burning ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Sunday. The event will follow the 10:30 a.m. worship service at the church, 3803 Haines Road N, St. Petersburg.

The church mortgaged part of the property in 1983 to finance the construction of the family life center and to make improvements to the sanctuary. With the help of parishioner contributions, the mortgage has been paid off earlier than anticipated.

The mortgage will be burned in the courtyard, and a reception will follow. Call 527-6694 for more information.

Methodist bishop to speak May 6 in Tarpon Springs

Bishop Timothy Wayne Whitaker, the new leader of the Florida Annual Conference, a jurisdiction of 340,000 United Methodists east of the Apalachicola River to Key West, will be the keynote speaker at the St. Petersburg District Builders Club Banquet.

The event will begin at 5 p.m. May 6 at First United Methodist Church, 501 East Tarpon Ave., Tarpon Springs. Reservations are required by noon Monday. Call (727) 585-1207.

Experienced a loss? This 13-week course may help

GriefShare, a workshop for people suffering from any kind of loss, begins Friday and will continue for 13 weeks to July 27, at Cornerstone Community Church, 6745 38th Ave. N, St. Petersburg.

The sessions will take place from 10 a.m. to noon. Free coffee and doughnuts will be available from 9:30 a.m. Videos will be shown, followed by group discussions. Call (727) 343-7747.

New York musicians will teach instrument-making

Heritage OP, a vocal and percussion ensemble from New York City, will lead an instrument-making workshop at 7 p.m. Wednesday at First Unity Church, 469 45th Ave. N, St. Petersburg. The workshop costs $15.

The group also will perform at the church's monthly contemporary service at 7 p.m. Friday.

Women to celebrate world event, hear about racism

Church Women United will celebrate World Friendship Day at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, 1301 37th St. S. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m.
