TALLAHASSEE -- For the third consecutive year, a measure to require trigger locks on guns kept in homes with children has died without a hearing in the Republican-controlled Legislature.
Throughout the legislative session, Tampa Sen. John Grant has refused to place the trigger lock bill on the agenda of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which he chairs.
On Friday, Grant, a Republican, helped fight off an attempt by Sen. Betty Holzendorf, a Democrat from Jacksonville, to include the trigger lock requirement as an amendment on the Senate floor. "Senators, we just didn't have the time to do it," Grant said.
