Groups to celebrate Cinco de Mayo

Farmworkers Self-Help, Inc. and the Pasco Food Bank will present a Cinco de Mayo Mexican Fiesta on Friday and Saturday in downtown Dade City.

The car show, street dance and crowning of the king and queen will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday. The flea market will open at 8 a.m. Saturday, followed by the Cinco de Mayo parade at 10 a.m. on Lock Street. Fiesta activities will be from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will include music, singers and dancers, food, vendors and games for children.

Recreation

The First Annual Jose A. Meza Memorial 5K race and one-mile fun walk to benefit the Sunrise Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center will be held in conjunction with the Cinco de Mayo festivities.

Registration will be held at 6:30 a.m. at the SouthTrust Bank, 14033 Eighth St. Registration fee is $10 for the 5K and $5 for the fun walk.

Summmer Days Tennis and Golf Day Camp will be held June 4-15 at Saint Leo University.

The camp, for children ages 6 to 14, is Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Professional tennis and golf instruction is provided during the morning, followed by a variety of activities, such as swimming, basketball, arts and crafts, beach volleyball, computer and group sports for the afternoon.

Tuition is $380 per two-week session and $195 per one-week session. An open house will be held at 6 p.m. May 20 at the school. For information, call Janet Wing at (352) 518-0232.

Microphone open Friday at museum

The Pioneer Florida Museum is sponsoring a free "open mike night" from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the museum, off U.S. 301 on Pioneer Museum Road.

The "mike" is open to any local musical group or solo performers. Scheduled performers are Andrea Counsel and Matt Winners band. Bring a lawn chair. For information, call (352) 567-0262.

Buy used books Friday at Hugh Embry Library

Friends of the Hugh Embry Library, 14215 Fourth St., Dade City, will hold its monthly used book sale from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday in the meeting room of the library.

Applications to become a member of the Friends of the Library are available at the library. Memberships are $10 for individuals, $15 for families and $50 for businesses. The cost is tax-deductible.

Sunrise offers help for women, children

Sunrise of Pasco County Inc., is a full-service Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center providing a non-violent place for women and children to plan their future.

Services include a 24-hour hotline, safe and confidential housing, advocacy and referrals, group and individual counseling, housing and employment referrals. For information, call (352) 521-3358.
