Teams needed for chamber tourney

The Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce's 15th annual Golf Tournament is scheduled to tee off at 1 p.m. May 11 with a shotgun start. Teams are needed to play at the Plantation Palms Golf Club in Land O'Lakes.
The cost is $75 per golfer and includes greens fees and cart, lunch, range balls, door prizes and goody bags, trophies and prizes for winners, on-course contests, and contests and prizes on every par three hole. The golfer who hits the first hole-in-one will win a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu, sponsored by Gordon Chevrolet. Sponsorships are also being sought.

French team places fourth in state contest
The Land O'Lakes High School French Team won a trophy for placing fourth in its division at the recent French State Competition in Orlando.
About 1,200 students, representing 74 schools from all over Florida, attended the three-day event. This year's theme was Le Midi de la France. The students competed in various categories, attended workshops, practiced the French language and learned about the country's culture. One night of the event featured a banquet and dance, and the awards ceremony concluded the convention.
Victoria Masters received a trophy for Best of Show in the project category for her school project. Jeremy Barber sang at the banquet and won a 10-day trip to France on a scholarship sponsored by the French government. He had to submit a portfolio in French and be interviewed.
The French play performed by Meaghan Bartlett, Daniel Bennett, Ben Corson and Robin Roos was rated excellent and the French skit presented by students Paige Bartlett, Paige Bowman, Amanda Craig and Briana Smeltzer received a good rating. The following students received a superior rating: Laura Ayoub, Jeremy Barber, Paige Bartlett, Brandy Hall, Christina Craig, Mari Mather-Loosemore and Victoria Masters. Receiving excellent ratings were Paige Bartlett, Daniel Bennett, Paige Bowman, LeAnne Domisiw, Heather Gerken, Valerie LaRose, Victoria Masters, Mari Mather, Robin Roos. Good ratings were awarded to Meaghan Bartlett, Amanda Craig and Ben Corson. Ben also received an honorable mention.
Starting a business focus of seminar
Eleanor Hollis, of SCORE Chapter 439, will conduct a seminar on "How to Successfully Start Up a Small Florida Business." The session will be 1-4 p.m. May 9 at the Huntington Bank Conference Center, 6128 U.S. 19 in New Port Richey.
Participants will learn the fundamentals of applying for licenses, for fictitious company names and governmental sales and employer numbers. Simple bookkeeping procedures, financial statements and the pros and cons of the various legal business structures will be covered. Cost is $15. For information, call (727) 375-0328.
Hospice plans auction, ball for Cinco de Mayo
Hospice of Pasco is having its third annual Diamond Ball and Awards Banquet May 5 in the Sunset Room of the Seven Springs Golf and Country Club.
The cash bar opens at 6 p.m. and dinner is served at 7 p.m. There will be a silent auction and prizes with music by TK Productions. The cost is $25 per person and all proceeds benefit Hospice of Pasco Inc. This year's theme is Cinco de Mayo. For information, call (727) 845-5707. Costumes are optional.
Library offers children's storytime
Tot's Night Out, an evening storytime especially for children ages 1-5, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at the Land O'Lakes Library, 2818 Collier Parkway in Land O'Lakes.
Toddler storytime and preschool storytime are scheduled for 10:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. respectively on Friday, and the Teen Advisory Board meets at 4 p.m., also on Friday. For information, call (813) 929-1214.
Crews Lake Park site of summer camp
The Pasco County Parks and Recreation Department is presenting Camp Crews-A-While at Crews Lake Park, 16739 Crews Lake Drive in Shady Hills.
The camp will be held Monday through Friday from May 29 until June 8 and from July 23 until Aug. 3. The hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with no camp on May 28.
The camp is for children ages 7-14. They will explore nature, learn about animals, marine life and blaze trails through the wilderness park. The program also includes environmental activities, nature crafts, games and field trips.
The cost is $25 per week or $5 a day with extra cost for field trips. Registration dates are as follows: May 5, 9-11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Shady Hills Community Center; May 12, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Kiosk at Jay B. Starkey Park; May 19, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Land O'Lakes Recreation Complex. For information, call (813) 929-1220.
