Officials: Man fires shot at stepsonBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published April 29, 2001 SEMINOLE -- A 59-year-old Seminole man was arrested Friday night and charged with attempted murder of his stepson, authorities said. He is being held in the Pinellas County Jail without bail. Pinellas County sheriff's deputies said Dewain L. Howard of 9525 103rd Ave N fired a single shot from a small-caliber handgun at his stepson, Richard Howard. Richard Howard, 31, who lives with his stepfather and mother, Gwendolyn Howard, 50, came home Friday after winning two tickets to the Livestock 2001 concert in Zephyrhills. Dewain Howard accused his stepson of "loafing" off his parents because he was staying with them and not helping financially, sheriff's spokesman Cal Dennie said. The two men argued and scuffled before the younger Howard left the house, Dennie said. When Richard Howard returned to check on his mother, Dewain Howard fired one shot at his stepson, missing him, officials said. The bullet went through a glass door and across the street, lodging in the garage door of a neighbor. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
