0-FOR-'01

Larry Sutton went on a tear last week, relatively speaking. The Cardinals pinch-hitter and backup first baseman had hits in consecutive at-bats. The news was notable because Sutton had been 0-for-21 in 2001. Now that Sutton has joined the hit parade, only five position players who have been active since opening day were hitless going into Saturday's games. Leading the way is a certain centerfielder in Cincinnati who goes by the name Junior. Limited to pinch-hitting duties because of a hamstring pull, Ken Griffey was 0-for-11 with three walks and five strikeouts. Griffey insists he is ready to play full time, but the Reds do not want to risk aggravating the injury and making matters worse. "Even my dad (Ken Griffey Sr.) said, "You aren't going nowhere until I say so,' " Junior said. "He only acts like my dad when I'm hurt."
