The University of South Florida women's golf team will be one of 24 participating in the NCAA East Regional at the Scarlet Course at Ohio State University May 11-13. The team learned of its assignment Monday.

Eleven teams plus the top three scoring individuals not on one of those 11 teams will advance from each of the East and West Regionals to the NCAA Championships May 24-27 at Crosswater at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore.

South Florida junior Kelly Lagedrost, a former Hernando High state champion and a 1999 first-team All-American, will have the opportunity to defend her co-medalist status from the 1999 East Regional. She shares it with Duke's Beth Bauer.

The Bulls recently won their third Conference USA championship.

Minor matters

Updates on Hernando High's three alums currently playing in the minor leagues:

Bronson Arroyo W L ERA GS K BB

Nashville, AAA 2 2 2.41 5 18 10

Arroyo allowed one run in eight innings of a 3-1 win over Oklahoma on Monday.

"Bronson made better use of his fastball, but his ability to throw his off-peed pitches when he was behind in the count was good," Sounds manager Trent Jewett told The (Nashville) Tennesseean.

Arroyo was reunited with catcher Craig Wilson, who was making his first Triple-A start behind the plate. Wilson caught Arroyo in portions of the last three seasons in Double-A. "I'm probably the only guy on the team Craig has caught," Arroyo told The Tennesseean after allowing four hits and striking out five. "We got in a good groove. I didn't shake off many pitches. I didn't feel too strong to open the game, but I spotted my pitches well and I felt better as the game went. Once we got a run, I thought I could hold it."

Bert Snow W L ERA G K BB

Midland, AA 0 3 6.10 8 13 9

Snow allowed a run on a hit with two strikeouts and a walk Monday in a 9-4 win over Shreveport.

Brent Stentz W L ERA G K BB

New Britain, AA 1 0 5.06 6 12 4

Stentz pitched the eighth inning to earn the win Monday in a 9-8 comeback victory over Trenton.
