Dance company makes Pinellas debut
Works by Miami choreographer Dale Andree, founder of Mary Street Dance Theatre, are performed by Moving Current this weekend. Also on the program are dances by Moving Current's founding choreographers Cynthia Hennessy, Erin Cardinal and Elsa Valbuena, pictured here.
The modern dance company from Tampa is making its first Pinellas appearance at the Largo Cultural Center, 105 Central Park Drive, south of East Bay Drive, between Highland Avenue and Seminole Boulevard, adjacent to the Largo Library. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets: $5 and $8. (727) 587-6793.
Winning violinist to perform
Two violinists are featured in the Tampa Bay Symphony's concerts this weekend. One is Halina Bobrow, concertmaster of the community orchestra since 1987, who is the soloist in Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade. The other violinist is the winner of the orchestra's 14th Young Artists' Competition, Janice Chik, pictured here, a senior at Oviedo High School. Janice performs the fourth and fifth movements of Lalo's Symphonie Espagnole.
Conducted by Jack Heller, the orchestra also plays Copland's An Outdoor Overture and the overture to Wagner's Rienzi tonight at Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Friday at Mahaffey Theater and Saturday at Ruth Eckerd Hall; all concerts are at 8 p.m. Tickets: $10.
