Police reportBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published May 4, 2001 Pilot low on fuel makes emergency landingA pilot who ran out of fuel made an emergency landing in a field Wednesday night. The landing was near-perfect. The pilot and two passengers escaped injury, and the plane was not damaged. According to sheriff's reports, John Coons, 31, of Erlanger, Ky., was flying to the Hernando County Airport in his Piper multiengine plane when he realized he did not have enough fuel to make it to the airport. So after radioing, he set the plane down in an empty field about a mile west of Citrus Way, just south of Peach Orchard Drive northwest of Brooksville. When deputies arrived, Coons and the two passengers, Ava Molmar, 32, of Kentucky, and Stan Chorvat Jr., 55, of 1157 Broad St. in Brooksville, were already out of the plane and walking around. They could not be reached Thursday for comment. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
