Man held on child neglect, grand theft charges
LAND O'LAKES -- A 24-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on charges of child neglect after deputies found him sleeping while his two children were playing unsupervised.
Deputies said they went to the house of Thomas Jeremy Cheek, 22786 Perry Loop, because he was a suspect in a grand theft case.
When they arrived, a 5-year-old girl answered the door and said Cheek was in his room sleeping. She said her 7-year-old brother was down the street playing, a report stated.
Deputies woke Cheek up and said he had a strong odor of alcohol coming from him. They said he had glassy, bloodshot eyes and stumbled when he walked. He told deputies he had been drinking the night before and was recovering, the report stated.
Cheek was arrested and taken to Land O'Lakes jail. He was charged with child neglect, as well as the grand theft charge.
He remained in jail Thursday in lieu of $25,000 bail, jail officials said.
Port Richey man charged with battery
NEW PORT RICHEY -- Pasco Sheriff's deputies arrested a 38-year-old man after he locked himself in his girlfriend's apartment Wednesday night.
Deputies were called to 8014 Alnwick Circle in the Park Richey Apartment complex at about 8 p.m., after receiving a call for help from 35-year-old Vivane Kreitzer. She told authorities that her boyfriend, Donald McGaughey, had slapped her and bit the telephone cord in half when she tried to dial 911.
She escaped the apartment with her two children, ages 7 and 1, but McGaughey locked the apartment door and refused to emerge.
Deputies evacuated nearby apartments and eventually opened Kreitzer's apartment door with a key and arrested McGaughey.
McGaughey, who lives at 9654 Baxley Lane, Port Richey, was charged with tampering with a witness and simple battery. He was being held Thursday at the county jail in Land O'Lakes on $500 bail.
