There aren't many virgin areas left in Florida's most densely populated county. Brooker Creek Preserve in North Pinellas is a gem waiting to be discovered. This 8,000-acre wilderness has bobcat, foxes, deer and a variety of endangered plants and animal species.
Birders flock to this spot for its avian diversity. Guided hikes are offered every Saturday. To make a reservation call (727) 943-4003. You also can explore the 1.7-mile nature trail on your own, from dawn to dusk, seven days a week. Take Keystone Road to Lora Avenue, then head south until it dead-ends.
