Davis Island Yacht Club Thursday Night Series

There was a time when sailors didn't do much during the summer except sit around the yacht club bar and reminisce about the winter wind.

Today they head to the Davis Island Yacht Club. The Thursday night sailing series (it parallels daylight savings time) welcomes all wind-powered craft, from windsurfers to 50-foot cruising yachts.

The evening races usually draw about 50 boats. The first gun fires at 6:35 p.m. To enter, call the yacht club at (813) 251-1158 or just show up at the bar and tell the bartender you want to sail.
