A footprint remains in the sand late in the afternoon at Shell Key.

When the crowds at Clearwater Beach get too heavy to handle, head south across the Clearwater Pass Bridge to Sand Key Park. With 2,000 feet of patrolled waterfront, Sand Key is the best-kept secret in Pinellas County.
When the weather is good, Sand Key has a clean, safe swimming area, ideal for youngsters. When the wind blows and waves grow, the lifeguards open up the north end of the beach to surfing, which is allowed as long as the guards are on duty.
Sand Key Park has restrooms and is open from 7 a.m. until dark (a half-hour after sunset). Metered parking is available (quarters only). Call (727) 588-4852.
