The Gunsmoke

This 65-foot shrimp boat, scuttled by her crew in 1977 with the Coast Guard in hot pursuit in 1977, is one of the best wreck dives in the Tampa Bay area. The rusting hull, resting in 80 feet of water, is loaded with fish, making it a favorite destination for spearfishermen and hook-and-liners alike. The lore surrounding the wreck, including tales of modern-day pirates, makes it that much more appealing. The Gunsmoke is located about 25 miles from John's Pass. The LORAN numbers are 14143.7, 44762.1.
