Mention the words "yacht club" to most people and they picture a clubhouse where martini-sipping rich guys sit around and talk about sailing. In St. Petersburg, that image couldn't be further from the truth. There isn't another organization in the country that hosts more competitive sailing events than our hometown yacht club. From international women's yacht racing to the Olympic Trials, the St. Petersburg Yacht Club has something for sailors of every skill level. Their youth sailing program has produced numerous champions, including Olympic gold medal winner Allison Jolly, America's Cup skipper Ed Baird and college All-Americans Brett Davis and Mark Mendelblatt. For information on membership and regatta schedules, call (727) 822-3873 or check out the yacht club's web site at http://www.spyc.org.
