Some would argue that the degeneration of society can be attributed in part to the removal of arts programs from public schools.
USF's Pre-college and Community Outreach fills that void with yearlong art classes for children 8-17 years old.
The school-year Outreach session has just ended, and this weekend the public is invited to see the results at Youth Arts Showcase 2000.
At 2 p.m. Sunday, students in the program's Young Actor's Studio and Visual Arts Studio will offer a live performance, demonstrations and an art exhibition of skills the children learned in the program. The event also offers the chance to meet the instructors of the Outreach.
For those who missed out on this school year's program, there also will be information about programs and registration for Summerplay, a more concentrated version of the school-year Outreach program.
Where Outreach's school-year program teaches children artistic skills, Summerplay is a place for artistic children to produce their own art, theater, writing and music recitals.
