Lessons in conservation

Inverness Primary second-grader Dalton Sturgess, 8, left, helps first-grader John Liptrap, 7, release a tagged redfish Friday at the boat landing at the end of Fort Island Gulf Trail. First- and second-graders were working with high school students from the Academy of Environmental Science. One activity was releasing redfish, a protected species. Each fish was tagged and numbered, and the number was recorded with the student's name. If the fish is caught, the student will be notified. Florida Power's Mariculture Center supplied the fish.
