Man charged with theft after fleeing Wal-Mart

PORT RICHEY -- A Port Richey man led police on a brief chase after he allegedly stole two DVD players from the Wal-Mart supercenter on U.S. 19 on Saturday, authorities said.

After fleeing the store through a fire exit, Mitar Singh Lidik, 48, of 8401 Wilkens St., Port Richey, drove south in the northbound lanes of U.S. 19 with police in pursuit. Fearing the chase would cause a crash, police backed off and followed Lidik at a distance onto Washington Street, according to a deputy's report. Lidik was arrested after he crashed his car into a fence at the intersection of Washington and Casson Avenue.

Police found two DVD players and clothing in Lidik's car. They also found a number of articles of clothing stuffed down Lidik's pants. He was charged with felony retail theft, aggravated fleeing of a law enforcement officer, driving with a suspended license and driving under the influence. He is being held at the Land O'Lakes jail on $21,250 bail.

Bar fight over money leads to arrest of one man

NEW PORT RICHEY -- Scott Haynes, 42, of Dana Street, New Port Richey, was charged with aggravated battery after a fight at R&R Lounge Saturday morning.

According to a police report, Haynes beat up another man Friday morning over a dispute about money. Haynes was taken to jail on $5,000 bail.

Police: Man tried to burn his ex-girlfriend's house

PORT RICHEY -- Daniel Caraballo, 43, faces arson charges after he allegedly tried to burn down his ex-girlfriend's house Friday morning, according to a police report.

The report states that Caraballo of 7815 Crosier Court argued with his ex-girlfriend. Witnesses told police he returned later when no one was home and entered the house. Later, neighbors spotted smoke coming from the back of the house. The fire caused minor damage. Caraballo was charged with one count of arson and is being held at the Land O'Lakes jail on $10,000 bail. Caraballo denied any involvement in the fire, the police report states.
