Editor:

The United Way of Citrus County is changing. We want to be better than we already are, and we have a lot of work ahead of us. However, the work should be a breeze because of the team that has been put together to make these changes effective and effectively. In that regard, the Board of Directors has been restructured and therefore there are some new names and some past friends on our Board at this time.

Recently we had a board retreat which lasted an entire day, and I am so enthusiastic that so many board members were able to attend. I was also there as executive director, as was my assistant, Bob Eaton. I feel that each and every Board member should receive a special thank you. I am providing the names of our Board of Directors and where they work in the hope that if you see any of them you will say thank you for a job well done!

I want to thank Ed Ericson, a new board member, for facilitating the entire day. Arthur Rubin, our board president, also was instrumental in the retreat and put in extra hours preparing for it as well. He is an exceptional leader, bringing new enthusiasm to everyone (including me)!

Following are the board members: Sherry Bemhoft, Florida Power; Barry Bowman, Sumter Electric (new); Cindy Chase, Pope John Paul II School; Fred Clark, Phoenix Rising (new); Vince Christian, SunTrust (new); Jeff Dawsy, Sheriff; Darlene Dick, Regions Bank; Ed Ericson, retired (new); Jean Grant, Citrus County Fair (new); Bonnie Grosos, Publix Supermarkets (new); Vickie Humphrey, CPA (new); Jewel Lamb, Crystal Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep; Connie Lange, Bank Of America; Ken LaPorte, Retired (new); Katie Lucas, Bay Area Air Conditioning; John Mannish, Citrus Memorial Hospital; Lisa Morris, Florida Power (new); Gerry Mulligan, Citrus County Chronicle; John Piersall, Lassiter Ware Insurance; Arthur Rubin, Citrus Memorial Hospital; Michael Shelton, Hagar Capital; Denise Tobin, Hospice (new); Phil Tompetrini, First Federal Savings Bank; and Patricia Brinker Walker, Time Warner Communications.

I am so excited about the new format of our Board of Directors and everyone seems to have a renewed excitement -- and you know how that is. Excitement is catching! I anticipate a wonderful campaign this year and enjoying this year of working with these dedicated people to raise the money we need to fund our 25 agencies for the year 2002.

Our goal is $600,000, and I know we can do it! I especially wish to thank everyone who attended the retreat because you all worked so hard but I actually think you also had fun at the same time! If we figured out a way to work hard and have fun at the same time, we can do anything!

We have set a good foundation for all the good that we will do in the next couple of years. I thank you also for the opportunity to come to a job I love every single day -- not many people can say that, can they?

Go, team! Go, United Way! Go Citrus County!
-- Dawn Arline, executive director, United Way of Citrus County
