New medical office building planned for Central Avenue

Central Development Enterprises of St. Pete Beach and Boyd Development Co. of Ocala have announced plans to build Central Centre, a 20,000-square-foot medical office building at 5885 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. The engineer for the project is AVID Engineering of Palm Harbor. The architect is Oliveri Architects Inc., also of Palm Harbor. Fifty percent of the office space is pre-leased, according to Clark East of Central Development. The building will be located across the street from the Sembler Center.

Role of African-Americans in tourism and hospitality

The St. Petersburg Area Black Chamber of Commerce and Florida Power Corp. present "Sensation Africa: African-American Focus on Hospitality and Tourism," 5:30 p.m. today at the Florida International Museum, 100 Second St. N, St. Petersburg. Speakers include state Sen. Les Miller, D-Tampa, state Rep. Frank Peterman, D-St. Petersburg, Pinellas County Commission Chairman Calvin Harris and St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker.

The event, one of the first initiatives of the St. Petersburg Area Black Chamber of Commerce, is part of Pinellas County's National Tourism Week activities. The program will highlight African-American companies in the hospitality and tourism industries.

The cost, including a ticket for Countdown to Eternity, an exhibit on Martin Luther King Jr., is $10. For information, call Lorian Williams, 822-1203 or 867-0384.
