Santana concerts to be broadcast on InternetBy Times staff writers © St. Petersburg Times, published May 10, 2000 Grammy-winning musician Carlos Santana has teamed up with an Internet company to broadcast live concerts and chat sessions targeting Spanish and Portuguese audiences. StarMedia Network Inc. will sponsor Santana's Supernatural tour this summer, which comes to Tampa's Ice Palace on July 21. StarMedia Broadband will provide Webcasts of Santana's shows. Santana said the Internet deal gives him a chance to "touch the lives of so many people in a borderless community of Spanish and Portuguese-speaking people throughout the world." Santana won eight Grammy awards this year, including top album for Supernatural and best record for Smooth. Tickets for Pearl Jam at Ice Palace going on salePearl Jam brings its grunge rock to the Ice Palace in Tampa Aug. 12 with special guest Sonic Youth. Pearl Jam's long-awaited sixth album Binaural has had its release date changed several times since November. Binaural is due in stores this month. The band, known for principles as much as passionate music, canceled its 1994 tour, claiming it could not keep ticket prices below $20 because Ticketmaster pressured promoters to charge higher fees. That feud is over. Tickets for the Ice Palace show are $28, on sale Saturday at Ticketmaster outlets or charge by phone, (727) 898-2100 or (813) 287-8844. -From staff, wire reports.
