In 2000 more than 1,500 NALC branches collected 64.2-million pounds of food from families along postal routes in some 10,000 cities and towns. This year the need is greater than ever with more than 30-million children, men and women going hungry daily. Many United Way agencies benefit directly from the NALC food drive. It is deliberately planned for a time of year when the shelves of community food banks, pantries and shelters are at their barest. These donations help fill the need for food distribution through the summer.

Please help by putting your donation of non-perishable food in a plastic bag and hang it on your mailbox for pick-up by your mail carrier on Saturday.

Your letter carrier will pick this food up and it will be distributed to the food pantries to keep them up and running. If you have a post office box there will be collection areas in the lobbies of the post office to place your donated food. Please join the National Association of Letter Carriers in their efforts to help our community on this very important day. Food will be distributed in Citrus County to Citrus United Basket, Daystar Life Center and the Salvation Army.

Please join in and remember to hang your bag of food on your mailbox for pick up on Saturday.
