Finch has big night in no-tap tourney

Bobby Finch was the big winner in the Absolutely Pets, Nine-Pin No-Tap Tournament May 7 at Manatee Lanes in Crystal River.

Finch won the total series side money with a 1,025, posting three of the top six high individual games. He also was one-half of the tournament-winning team.

In the first game, Finch rolled a high of 277, followed by Craig Lecouriswith a 276. Finch had a high of 273 in the second game, and a high of 266 in the fourth.

In game No. 3, Carol Bohl took top honors with a 263. Janie Kinney and Finch earned first place in the team competition, followed by Vickie Smith and Lecouris. Bohl and Fred Aguilar finished third and Edna Jones and Leonard Jones fourth.

Manatee's next nine-pin no-tap tournament will be June 4 at 3 p.m.. The cost is $12 per person, and side pots will be included. Management is asking every team that currently bowls to bring in another team for the tournament, so teams from other centers are eligible.

PARKVIEW'S BEST: Rita Gibbs and Buzz Hemer have been selected April Bowlers of the Month. Gibbs rolled games of 154-179-200 for a 533 series, which is 107 pins over her average. Hemer had a 725 series -- 287-237-201 -- 173 pins over his average.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY: Manatee Lanes is offering a special on Sunday in honor of area mothers. From 3 to 10 p.m., bowling will be $1.50 per game. Although the special is in honor of Mother's Day, the entire family can bowl at the special price.

SMOKE-FREE BOWLING: Already smoke-free before 6 p.m. every day but Tuesday, Parkview Lanes will have a smoke-free no-tap league on Wednesday nights this summer. The four-person mixed league will begin at 7 p.m. May 17. Cost is $10.

Other summer activities include two regular Friday night leagues at 6:30 and 9. The late league will begin May 26 and the 6:30 league June. 9. A Monday night 7:15 league will begin June 5.

A non-smoking league also will be held on Wednesdays beginning at 1 p.m. June 1, and the Holder Hotshots will begin their league on June 8 at 7 p.m.

FAMILY FUN: Summer isn't quite here yet and school isn't officially over for another 21/2 weeks, but summer leagues and specials are getting started already.

Beginning Monday, Manatee Lanes' Rock 300 Family Fun Night will be held every Monday from 6 p.m. to midnight. Every member of the family can bowl for $1.75 per game, and music and snack bar specials are included. Hot dogs, large sodas and draft beer will be $1.
