BROOKSVILLE -- Attention, last-minute Mother's Day shoppers:
The Hernando County Recreation Department will hold its 11th annual Spring Arts and Crafts Festival on Saturday at Brooksville's Hernando Park.
"This is a good chance for last-minute shopping or an outing with Mom," Hernando County recreation director Lita Hart said.
Held each year on Mother's Day weekend, the festival was started by the Recreation Department, Hart said, and is a fundraiser for county events such as the annual haunted house and Easter egg hunt. This year's event boasts about 60 vendors selling baskets, bags, baby items, birdhouses, cards, dolls, jewelry and quilts.
"It's terrific how much variety there is among our vendors," Hart said.
Free entertainment in the park's band shell will feature groups from the Recreation Department's education program. There will be demonstrations in baton, pompoms, kick-boxing, gymnastics and drama.
The gospel choir JAM Group, Parker World Music Group and the Bahai Youth Dance Workshop will perform between 9 a.m. and noon. The performances are free and in conjunction with the Friends of Dawn, a volunteer fundraising organization to benefit the Dawn Center domestic abuse shelter and rape crisis center.
A great sampling of food will be available, Hart said, including hot dogs, pork chops, buffalo wings, cotton candy, caramel apples and lemonade.
