Planning group approves road projects

NEW PORT RICHEY -- After discussing ways to ease traffic congestion in central Pasco County, members of the Metropolitan Planning Organization on Thursday approved a series of federally and state-funded transportation projects to run through the year 2005.

Some of the Pasco projects that will undergo construction this year include widening U.S. 41 to six lanes between Bell Lake and Tower roads, and adding turn lanes, lighting and signals at the State Road 52 and Interstate 75 interchange.

State Road 54 will be widened to six lanes from U.S. 19 to Madison Street and from U.S. 41 to Cypress Creek.
