Eagles baseball coach resigns

BRANDON -- It wasn't that Greg Parris was tired of coaching baseball. It was that he was tired of spending so much time away from his family.

So this week he decided to step down as Brandon's coach, completing a 14-year career (10 at Brandon) with a 234-138 record.

"It was a very tough decision," Parris said. "I still love the game and the challenge of trying to win and working with the kids. But I had a little girl a few years ago, and well, that little girl has daddy wrapped around her little finger.

"It was just something I had to do."

Parris' teams won at least 20 games in a season eight times.

BAYSHORE CHRISTIAN: The Faith Warriors did not renew the contract for boys basketball coach Tom Dibble.

Bayshore athletic director David Volpe said the move was made to make room for a coach who would also work at the school.

Dibble, who guided Bayshore to a 33-4 record and into the 2001 Class A state semifinals, works as a courier for a construction company. Dibble's three-year record at Bayshore was 77-22.

"I appreciated Tom's commitment to the program," Volpe said.

"His record of 77-22 speaks well for his success."
