Man charged after wife falls, breaks hip

HUDSON -- A 73-year-old man was arrested Friday after his wife of almost 50 years suffered a broken hip during an argument, Pasco County sheriff's deputies said.

Robert Albert McCanlis of 8850 Thoreau Drive was charged with crimes against the elderly/aggravated assault, deputies said.

About 9:30 a.m. the couple began arguing in the kitchen, deputies said.

The wife walked away to her bedroom, but McCanlis followed her. He raised his fist and said, "You're not going to do this to me."

She thought he was going to hit her, tried to get away and fell to the ground, breaking her hip, deputies said.

McCanlis posted $5,000 bond and was released Saturday morning from county jail in Land O'Lakes.
