CYPRESS CREEK ESCAPE: Three inmates from the Cypress Creek Detention Facility escaped but were caught quickly.
FCAT ANNOUNCED: Citrus students earned mixed results on this year's important Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test, with eighth- and 10th-graders dropping below state averages in writing scores. Reading and math scores were above the state averages at every grade level tested for accountability purposes, but reading scores for the district dropped slightly at the fourth-grade level compared with last year. Despite those drops, the scores show good news nearly across the board, when compared with state and previous district scores.
CRYSTAL RIVER PARK TO CLOSE TEMPORARILY: The public works department plans to close the city playground for the entire month of June to perform routine maintenance and address concerns over arsenic leaking from pressure-treated wood.
CRYSTAL RIVER NAMES FINALISTS: Drawing from a pool of more than 60 applicants, the City Council named seven men as finalists for the job City Manager David Sallee will lose next month.
