AcheiversBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published May 16, 2001 District honors students with turnaround awards The Pinellas County school district honored 46 middle and high school students May 7 at the 16th annual Pinellas County Turnaround Achievement Awards breakfast. The students were nominated by their teachers or guidance counselors for improving their attitudes, behavior or grades. Winners from south Pinellas County schools were: Lisa M. Rundell, Azalea Middle; Larae K. Bryant, Bay Point Middle; Ernest Parker, Lealman Discovery Middle;William P. Perkinson Jr., Madeira Beach Middle;Alyson M. Chapman, Meadowlawn Middle;Jeremy S. Morris, Pinellas Park Middle;Julie Wilson, Riviera Middle; Bryan McEntegart, Southside Fundamental Middle;Brittany N. Dorn, Tyrone Middle; David P. Christian, Richard L. Sanders Exceptional Education Center; Justine Cameron, PTEC-St. Petersburg TEAM Program; Matthew C. Harner, Boca Ciega High;Andre M. Hall, Dixie Hollins High;Russellee W. Burkepile, Gibbs High;Bridgette I. Delay, Lakewood High; Olga I. Pagan, Northeast High; Ryan C. George, Norwood Academy Secondary School; David T. Cutillo, Pinellas Park High and Nicholas Bevilacqua III, St. Petersburg High. The National Turnaround Program was started by a Miami bowling alley owner who saw the need to honor students who otherwise would go unnoticed. Seminole Lanes, Sunshine Bowl and Sunrise Lanes sponsored the Pinellas County awards ceremony. Canterbury High School senior attends forum in D.C.Daniela Bueno, daughter of Jhamin Bueno Abdala of St. Petersburg, attended a National Youth Leadership forum titled NYLF on Law in Washington, D.C. During the weeklong seminar, she prepared mock trials based on Supreme Court cases, toured Capitol Hill, and observed court cases in progress for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
