TAMPA -- A rally to protest the detention on secret evidence of Tampa resident Mazen Al-Najjar is scheduled for Friday at Tampa City Hall.

Al-Najjar was arrested May 19, 1997, after overstaying a student visa, then denied bail while he appeals his deportation. Secret government evidence alleges he has ties to Middle East terrorists. Supporters say his treatment violates the U.S. Constitution.

The rally is from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at City Hall, 315 Kennedy Blvd.

Call the Tampa Bay Coalition for Justice and Peace at (813) 988-2257.
