Whether "the greatest generation" is historical reality or revisionism, three new TV offerings reinforce a perception of this era as less troubled by moral ambiguity than succeeding decades.

Here are some World War II releases coming to theaters -- or your home theater.

The world of publishing is also capitalizing on interest in all things World War II. Here are a few recent titles:

An Album of Memories: Personal Histories From the Greatest Generation, by Tom Brokaw. (Random House, $29.95) The NBC anchor shares letters he received in response to The Greatest Generation.

The Medic: Life and Death in the Last Days of WWII, by Leo Litwak. (Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill, $22.95) A novelist recalls years spent dispensing gauze and morphine.

Ghost Soldiers: The Forgotten Epic Story of World War II's Most Dramatic Mission, by Hampton Sides. (Doubleday, $24.95) Journalist Sides recounts an Army Rangers mission to rescue POWs behind enemy lines in the Philippines.

Long Day's Journey Into War: Pearl Harbor and a World at War, by Stanley Weintraub. (Lyons Press, $19.95) Originally published in 1991, this account of the first day of the war has been reissued in paperback.
