CABA'S 5TH ANNUAL BALLOON FESTIVAL: Food, fun, entertainment and -- yes -- balloons will be in full supply at the Carrollwood Area Business Association's fifth annual balloon festival. The festivities will run from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. tonight and 5 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

More than 75 vendors and exhibitors will offer pony rides, a petting zoo, carnival rides, live music and dance team performances. See a balloon launch on Saturday at sunrise and the balloon glow at 9 p.m. on Friday.

A weekend pass is $2 per person. Kids two and under are free. The event is at Lake Park, 17302 N Dale Mabry Highway with free shuttle service compliments of HARTline. For information, call (813) 264-0006.

LITTLE EXPLORERS: Preschoolers can become junior scientists in a 45-minute class that combines hands-on activities and exploration geared for ages two to five. The class, "Living in the Dark," begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Reservations are recommended. Different programs run each Saturday. Cost is $16 a month, or $5 a week for members; or $20 a month and $6 a week for nonmembers. Classes take place at the Museum of Science and Industry, 4801 E Fowler Ave. For information, call (813) 987-6300.

OUTWARD BOUND FUNDRAISER: A concert at Skipper's Smokehouse will raise money to send a high school student to the Outward Bound wilderness program in North Carolina.

This folk music performance includes Ann and Frank Thomas, Southwind, New Sand Mountain Wildcats, Dale Crider, Devine and LaRoche, Sue Grooms, Joey Errigo, Gary and Ellen Bukstel and Art Crummer.

The fundraiser was established by Norm and Rochelle Morris, whose son, Adam, a 23-year-old and recent graduate of the University of Florida, drowned last November. A wrestler and track star in high school, Morris had attended a three-week Outward Bound Camp the summer before his senior year, and his parents say the experience profoundly changed his life.

The concert is from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road. Tickets are $6 at the door. For information, call (813) 971-0666.
