St. Petersburg residents can water two times after all
By Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published May 20, 2000 ST. PETERSBURG -- A day after learning that the city's watering restrictions are different from those issued by the area's primary water regulators, St. Petersburg officials have declared that residents can water twice a day after all. In issuing watering restrictions, the Southwest Florida Management District had declared that residents could water either in the morning or evening on their allowed days, but not at both times. St. Petersburg believed the rule allowed watering twice a day, and told residents that in thousands of notices mailed with utility bills. But on Friday, St. Petersburg assistant utilities director Patti Anderson said Swiftmud would allow St. Petersburg residents an exception, since its watering hours are more restricted than Swiftmud's. So, at least for a weekend and maybe until at least June 30, here are the watering restrictions for St. Petersburg residents and those who get their water from St. Petersburg utilities: * * * Odd-numbered addresses Watering with potable water or from wells is allowed on Sundays from 5 to 9 a.m. AND 7 to 11 p.m. Even-numbered addresses: Watering with potable water or from wells is allowed on Tuesdays from 5 to 9 a.m. AND 7 to 11 p.m. Reclaimed water users: Are encouraged to conserve. Odd-numbered addresses may use reclaimed water only on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday, even-numbered addresses only on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. New sod and plants Watering is allowed each day for the first 30 days after planting, but never between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Hand watering and car washing: Allowed any time, but only with a hose that uses a shut-off nozzle. Flushing a boat motor: Allowed any time, but for a maximum of 10 minutes. The fine: A first offense gets a warning. But second and subsequent offenses get a $55 ticket.
