Arts talkBy Times staff writers © St. Petersburg Times, published May 20, 2001 Student Academy Award finalists Two students of Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota are finalists in the 28th annual Student Academy Awards competition from the same folks who bring you the Oscars. Tonya Noerr and Amber Rudolph were chosen in the animation category for Silhouette, one of eight nominees. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voters will decide the winners, to be announced June 10 in Los Angeles. Prizes include trophies and cash ranging from $2,000 to $5,000. Royalty Theatre eventsClearwater's renovated Royalty Theatre presents a weekend of films, dance and pageants May 25-27 at 405 Cleveland St. Opening night includes selections of the festival's king, queen, prince and princess. Tickets are $10, $15 and $20. May 26 is a day of films, including Ballroom Fever from Austria, the skateboard documentary Video Daze by Largo artist Brandt Elliott and One More Second by Clearwater filmmaker Patrick Creel. Tickets are $5, $10 and $15. The final day includes a dance showcase of Hollywood songs at noon (tickets $5 to $15) and a 7 p.m. formal or Roaring '20s gala (tickets $10 to $25).
