Smithsonian exhibit to visit Inverness

INVERNESS -- The Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C., has selected the 1912 restored Courthouse Heritage Museum in Inverness to display its traveling exhibit "Yesterday's Tomorrows -- Past Vision of the American Future." The display will run from July 4 to Aug. 11.

The Heritage Museum and Museum Store are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m weekdays and from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. Saturdays, 1 Courthouse Square. Guided tours are free. For information call 341-6436.

Truck pull for street legal vehicles set at fairgrounds

INVERNESS -- The Citrus County Fair Association is sponsoring a truck pull on June 3 at the Citrus County Fairgrounds, 3600 S Florida Ave.

Registration will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the pit gate. All contestants must be in line by noon in order to compete and all trucks must be street legal to pull. There will be a charge of $15 per pull with a limit of three pulls.

Gates open to the public at 11:30 a.m. with the first pull at noon. Seating is limited to about 400, so come early or bring your own chair. Gate prices are $5 for general admission, $3 for ages 6 to 11, 5 and younger are free. There are no advance ticket sales. The association is constantly trying new avenues to raise funds to support its scholarship programs.
