FSU softball loses with 2 out in 10th
TALLAHASSEE -- Cal scored two in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat Florida State 3-2 in a softball region final Sunday.
The Seminoles broke a six-inning scoreless drought to take a 2-1 lead in the 10th. Cal was down to its last strike when No. 9 hitter Kristen Morley hit a two-run double off Leslie Malerich, sending the Bears to the World Series.
"You have to give a lot of credit to Cal," Seminoles coach JoAnne Graf said. "They played a great game and they hung around the whole time. I thought that once we got two out we were going to get out of that inning (the 10th). Their kid just got a great hit."
For the first time in three meetings with Cal at the Tallahassee region, the Seminoles scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Brandi Stuart's single scored Kimmy Carter.
The Bears tied the score in the third, and with two out in the 10th, Carter drove in the go-ahead run.
The Seminoles made their deepest run into the post-season since they advanced to the World Series in 1993.
