We know Alex Rodriguez, in town with the Rangers beginning tonight, makes a lot of money. But just how much? With an average annual salary of $25.2-million, he makes $2.1-million per month, which is about $69,041.10 per day, which is about $2,876.71 per hour, which is about $47.95 per minute, which is about 80 cents per second. That's over a year. If you put it in baseball terms, he makes $155,555.56 per game. Or $17,283.95 per inning. Or, based on a 650 plate-appearance season, about $38,769.23 each time he steps up to bat.
If you really want to get depressed about it, MSNBC (http://www.msnbc.com) and the Dallas Morning News (http://www.dallasnews.com) have Web site calculators that let you see how your earnings stack up against A-Rod's. (Warning: It's not pretty.)
A-Rod's average annual salary of $25.2-million naturally invites lots of comparisons. Such as this one: He makes more than the roster of the Twins. That would be the first-place, 29-13, 14 1/2-games-better-than-the-Rangers Twins.
The baseball season is considered to be 183 days long. Today is the 52nd day. That means A-Rod, with a $22-million salary, has already earned $6,251,366.12.
