Remember when Geraldo Rivera opened Al Capone's secret vault? Hopefully this Fox special will be a bit livelier. Opening the Tombs of the Golden Mummies: Live!, hosted by Hugh Downs and narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, takes viewers on a live archaeological expedition led by noted Egyptologist Zahi Hawass. It seems that there may be more than 10,000 mummies buried in an area where more than 100 have been discovered, many of them with heads and chests covered in gold. Will more be found tonight? 8 p.m. Experience a giant superheated storm erupting off the sun's face that hurls through space toward Earth at 1-million mph on WEDU-Ch. 3's premiere of Solar Blast tonight. The new documentary features vivid solar imagery and animation to give viewers a new understanding of how the star works. 8 p.m. Share an Intimate Portrait on Lifetime with Connie Chung and learn about the varied resume of the second woman to co-anchor the evening news on a broadcast network. 7 p.m.- Compiled by Times staff writer Kathleen Lang.
