PHCC lands another lefty

NEW PORT RICHEY -- Less than a week after coming to terms with a player following a senior all-star game, Steve Winterling has landed another. The Pasco-Hernando Community College coach signed pitcher/outfielder Ryan Williams of Estero on Wednesday night after an all-star game in Fort Myers.

Following last Thursday's Sunshine Athletic Conference Senior All-Star Game, Winterling assured Ridgewood's Mike Sentner, who already had an academic scholarship to attend PHCC, that he would make the team as a walk-on.

Williams, a 6-foot, 170-pound left-hander, was 8-2 with a 2.60 ERA and 110 strikeouts this season. He also batted .403 with 8 doubles, 3 triples and a home run.

"He's got some good potential and it gives us another left-handed pitcher," Winterling said. The Conquistadors, who didn't have a left-handed pitcher this season, will have three on the roster next season.
