Plane lands on I-75, then takes off againBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published May 25, 2001 Some people heading home from work Thursday on Interstate 75 watched their highway turn into a runway when a small plane landed on the road. Pasco County emergency officials said they received a 911 call just after 5 p.m. reporting that the plane had landed in the southbound lane of the interstate, near State Road 54. Less than three minutes later, they received another call saying the plane had taken off again. Nobody was injured, and the landing caused no traffic accidents, emergency dispatchers said. Officials at Tampa North Aero Park, not far from the site of the landing, said they had no knowledge about who owned the plane, where it came from or where it was headed. Officials at Zephyrhills Municipal Airport, northeast of the landing site, could not be reached for comment. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
