Seminole finishes among top schools

Sparked by its state championship baseball team, Seminole placed second in the Florida High School Activities Association's Class 5A all-sports standings for the 2000-01 school year, the highest Pinellas County finish.

Two other county schools placed in the top 10 overall, Countryside (sixth in 5A) and Lakewood (eighth in 4A).

Broken down by gender, the Seminole boys were second and Countryside boys fourth in 5A, and the Shorecrest boys were sixth in 2A.

For the girls, Clearwater was eighth and Countryside 10th in 5A, and Lakewood was fifth in 4A.

The overall winners were: Winter Park (6A), Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (5A), Orlando Bishop Moore (4A), Jacksonville Bolles (3A), North Palm Beach Benjamin (2A) and Lauderhill Upperroom Christian (A).

St. Thomas Aquinas and Bolles have won all seven years the award has been presented while Winter Park and Benjamin are repeat winners.
